Grandma’s Gingerbread

My Mother would make gingerbread quite often. She always served it warm with whipped cream.  Over the years, I’ve found that it’s really good with butter – while it’s warm.

Grandma’s Gingerbread

Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/3 cup boiling water
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Mix all the ingredients together. Pour into a greased 8″ baking dish.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
