Warm gingerbread is good any time of year.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 cup hot water
Directions
  • Step 1 Cream butter
  • Step 2 gradually add sugar, mixing well. Add egg and molasses, mixing well.
  • Step 3 Combine dry ingredients
  • Step 4 add to the creamed mixture alternately with the hot water – beginning and ending with the flour mixture – beat well after each addition.
  • Step 5 Pour batter into lightly greased and floured 9-inch square pan.
  • Step 6 Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Step 7 Serve with lots of whipped cream!
